The Tanzania Youth in Agribusiness Southern Region Road show is reported to have bore significant positive results and as a result, stakeholders are now developing an action plan to attract and retain youth in Agribusiness.

“They are advocating for the best environment for youth and youth initiatives in Agribusiness across the country,” explained the Institutional Coordinator of the Amsha Institute of Rural Entrepreneurs East Africa, Omari Mwaimu.

He was speaking to reporters yesterday in Lindi during visit of the region to attend a demonstration by road show themed “kilimo biashara ndo mpango mzima” directly translated to “Agribusiness is the real deal.” The road shows held across the southern region in Lindi and Mtwara regions featured expert inspirational talks on Tanzania’s agribusiness sector along with short youth discussions in both regions.

“While in those regions, we held discussions with youth to show them the potential of the agribusiness sector and they were very impressed and expressed interest to engage,” he revealed. “Youth projects and enterprises success stories were shared which served as inspiration and motivation to attract young Agri-entrepreneurs,” he explained.

He went on to say the road show increased youth awareness and knowledge on policies, supporting initiatives and available opportunities in the agribusiness for youth.

“The road show had improved networks among the youth, inspired and encouraged youth projects and enterprises,” he added.

The Southern region Road show was conducted by Tanzania Graduate Farmers Association, Agricultural Non State Actors Forum, Amsha Institute of Rural Entrepreneurs East Africa, AGRI-Hub in collaboration with Africare and the  event was inaugurated by Lindi Regional Commissioner,  Ludovick Mwananzila
The main goal of the road show was to share the results of desk reviews done by stakeholders and Agri-hub Tanzania that sought to generate information on status of youth and youth opportunities in the Agribusiness sector.

It also aimed at mapping the current situation, potential and challenges of the existing youth entrepreneurs, youth groups and to offer recommendations to address the challenges.

Generally, the road show promoted collaborations and partnerships among stakeholders to develop an action plan that will attract and retain youth in the Agribusiness sector and advocating for the best environment for youth and youth initiatives in Agribusiness.

This is the third Road show following success in previous two road shows carried out in Morogoro last year.

Another road show will take place in Manyara Region on 26th of October, 2014 and is expected to attract youths, youth group representatives, private companies, youth supporting Organisations as well as stakeholders.
